How to stop a McDonald’s coke binge in the dark

The Canadian company is now using a special technology that can detect the presence of alcohol and warns customers when they are over the legal limit.

“Our coke machine is designed to detect the amount of alcohol present in the drinks and alert customers if the bar is over the limit,” the company said in a statement Monday.

The machines are already in place at a number of McDonald’s restaurants across Canada, and in the U.S., where it began selling the devices in late 2015.

McDonald’s says it has received feedback that customers have been turning up in restaurants and bars intoxicated.

A spokesman for the company would not say if that was the case.
