Coke and its major bottlers have been selling Coke flavors since 1871, but the new Coca-Cola flavors will be the first to go on sale in the United States since 2000, according to research firm Beverage Analytics.
Coke and PepsiCo have been making flavors since 1992.
Coke also owns a controlling stake in three of the five major Coca-Colas: Dr Pepper, PepsiCo and Pepsi.
The brands have sold over 1 billion cans of soda and over $100 billion in products.
The brand has been on a steep decline since 2012, when the company said it was going to discontinue the iconic Dr Pepper brand.
“There’s a lot of hype around the Coke brand and there’s a little bit of confusion in the market, but there’s nothing we can do about that,” PepsiCo Chief Executive Officer Howard Schultz told Reuters in an interview.
The new Coca Colas will be sold at grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations and on the Internet.
“It’s about bringing new energy to the industry,” Schultz said.
Schultz said he expects consumers to buy the new flavors at a time when they are “disenchanted with the brands.”
“This is about being different, being creative, being playful,” Schultz told the Reuters Television Network.
Dr Pepper and Pepsi have been struggling to find their footing.
PepsiCo said in May it would stop making Dr Pepper flavor in 2019 and Pepsi said in November it would also stop selling the Dr Pepper Flavor in cans and bottles.
Coke has been working on new flavors for years, but its current version is too strong and too expensive for many consumers.
For the first time, the brands will be available at supermarkets.
